Songfest 2011 to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity

Established by members of the UCI Greek community over thirty years ago in an effort to foster a more unified relationship with student body and alumni, as well as with the Irvine and Orange County communities, Greek Songfest has held the honor of being one of University of California, Irvine’s most beloved traditions.

The Broadway inspired show will be held at the Bren Events Center on May 20th. University students will perform renditions of various musicals to promote appreciation for the arts and to highlight the triumphs of the human spirit through song and dance.

For the first time ever, RadioFlag together with UCI’s radio station, KUCI will broadcast SongFest 2011 this Friday night, May 20th from 7pm to 10:30 pm.  Families and friends of performers, many of whom live out of town, will be able to participate by “tuning in” and listening to the Live broadcast.

Another event first is the People’s Choice Award, created by RadioFlag.  Listeners will have the ability to vote through mobile and web/laptop technologies. The award will be given to one of the 9 performance groups who get the most ‘tune ins’ using RadioFlag’s social media application.

The event is very important to the University in terms of school spirit and is primarily about promoting the Arts and philanthropy.  They believe that the essence of philanthropy lies in its ability to unite people of all walks of life by challenging them to pursue acts of benevolence that extend beyond their own interests.

Over 2,000 people are expected to attend this exciting event, raising funds for Habitat for Humanity. Last year they raised $81,000 for Orange County’s Food Bank, and expect to raise even more this year.
